With that being said, I will give my fair opinion of the game.NASCAR Heat 3 is a large improvement over Heat 2. Steam was generous enough to refund me for my Heat 2 purchase, it was that bad. NASCAR Heat 3, with it's great improvements, are not without it's cons.Pros: Driveability, though not to part with simulators, mixes a blend of entertainment with realism. Career mode gives me something to strive for and puts a purpose to how I race. There are consequences if you drive well vs poor. Games like NR 2003 does not provide you with that consequence system. Customization of player model is cute and adds a depth for personal story telling, especially in career mode. Track uniqueness is a plus. To the casual racing fan, tracks like Atlanta, Texas, and Charlotte can be easily waved off as the same tracks. They simply are not and Heat 3 does a good job of adding enough real life uniqueness to make the driver approach each of track with a level of newness. Dirt track racing is fun and a joy and has the opportunity to expand in future installments (World of Outlaws, fictional items such as the CUP series going to Eldora). The burnout event at the end of races is fun and a nice touch as something special for winning a race. Cons: Many of the above pros can be expanded on. Career mode seems basic and can add more depth. I want to be able to somehow communicate to the driver on the outside pole of Daytona and talk about a possible alliance. Have the already established relationships mix in with driver's ability to work with you or not. Also, there must be a way to 'work things out' with drivers. Currently Cole Custer hates my guts and he literally spins me out any time I am near him. The player cannot spin out other drivers nearly as easily as they can you nor do I have the ability to confront him after the race to intimidate him to stop him from crashing me. Conversely, respectable drivers such as Matt Crafton, should have the ability to negotiate a truce. Say like, "Hey, you hate me. But what if I let you go easily the next race and we'll be back to neutral" or "Hey, I'll bump draft you to the front at Talladega next weekend and we'll be square. Cool?". There is, otherwise, no way of lowering the anger meter unless they text...twitter message... whatever type of message me in the game. Speaking of messages... the video messages that drivers give me is pathetic. Stewart Friesan, for example, seems as if he has dinner waiting behind the camera and does not want anything to do with an appearance in NASCAR's premier video game. Hailie Deegan, despite her impressive potential as a NASCAR driver, is annoying. I don't need some 17 year old telling me about proving myself. Call it pride or whatever, it's annoying. Give us the option to turn off those video messages! Setups are terrible. It's basically 5 and -5 camber for every circular track. Setups are simply a joke. Graphics need a major overhaul for future installments. Some larger tracks are blurry in the distance. NR2003, a game that... yes... came out in 2003, has better long-range graphics than Heat 3 does. Spinning physics needs reworked. If you lose control you are basically fishtailing until you stop. I've done half a dozen fishtails at 30 mph and still couldn't get it straight. CPU driving lines need reworked as well. There is either scripts or terrible physics given to CPU cars, especially tracks like Bristol. I've had half a straightaway lead over another car and halfway through the next turn they are passing me at the bottom. Mind you - they were already at the bottom of the track on the straightaway. Negotiating traffic needs reworked as well. I've won at Dover in a 3 star truck on legendary settings simply because the leaders get stuck inside of a pack of lapped down cars. I just pass them all on the outside. It makes my 20th place truck a race winner and it removes immersion from the game. I know there's a lot more in the cons than in the pros, but that is because I, along with the rest of you, are passionate about our racing games. Overall, I am enjoying the game and I recommend the game to veteran and new racing simmers alike. I think Heat 3 has it's hands in many pots that now it's time to delve deeper and add depth to many areas. I expect Heat 4 to come with glaring issues by not fixing enough issues or going too far in some areas while striking gold in other areas.. My first Steam review. Primarily due to my annoyance with this game. I want to give this game a recommendation. I really do. I use an old Fanatec CSR wheel/pedals/shifter setup. Works marvelously in any other game I've played and appears to work fine in this game. I've got hundreds of hours behind the Forza franchise and DiRT titles using this wheel. It took forever to get everything properly setup in game, but that's par for the course with using a wheel and not necessarily a negative for the game itself. I was able to play a few dirt tracks in the career mode. The game forces you into starting with dirt cars, which I suppose makes some sense, but took me out of it. If I wanted to play in the dirt, I'd play DiRT. I want to pretend to be a Nascar driver. Let me do that, game. The game allows you to "sim" the race, which has the AI figure out how well you might have done. You always finish near the back of the pack. Before I could complete my "dirt career" in the game and progress to trucks, I got a CTD. And then proceeded to get a CTD each time I opened Career mode. Amazing. I've put in a Steam refund request. Maybe I'm being overly critical, but I am fairly annoyed with the experience.. Refunding for the third year. Probably wont do this again. Finally added a suggested racing line, BUT it only shows in pratice! Garbade physics. These games are just straight trash. Save your money. best nascar game in 13 years. not saying alot i know, but at least the racing is fun again.. Very cool game! Its far away to a sim racing but ont think that will easy beat AI above 100% level. Even with custom setups took from Youtube, devs dis a great work to IA´s behavior and bring a amazing NASCAR enviroment to that version. Project Cars 2 and Forza 7 doesn´t gives such expeience to plate/ovals tracks.Graphics still loose to NAscar 15 so you will be desapointed if thats your primer criteria.Fantastic carrer mode.Good control profile.Stable multiplayer lobbys but i just saw few players. If has option to play PS4 or X1, take one that if looking to full lobbies.. So much better than heat 2. I've only been in the dirt series but I cannot stop playing. Its alot of fun, and physics and graphics are nice. Engine sounds are better as well. Maybe by heat 4 the engines will sound real:) I really enjoy this game.. 704 continues to steadily improve this series year after year. Its not perfect but the improvements made drastically differ this game from Nascar Heat 2.. One of the best "ARCADE" racing games made for NASCAR. The physics have been improved enough to show that it isn't a heat 2 clone. There's actual tire wear in the game, and the dirt physics are actually comparible to nr2003, and might could make the iracing guys take notice. However this is still no sim, far from it actually. Although improved the physics are still arcade, the "ping pong effect" is reduced but still noticeable. Graphically it's actually good it's not Project Cars, or F1 2018 levels of beuty, but it does look nice. The dirt, smoke, and particle effects look good and the new sky really adds some needed color/shading to the games. The wheel support seems hit or miss atm, so i'll just say that my g27 works well, when it works. I've had my fill for this game, and i'll return to nr2003 and iracing hoping for a new NASCAR sim. But for an arcade game Heat 3 gets a solid 7/10. Why am I forced to use Toyota equipment if I own my own team? What sense does that even make? Am I missing something? My custom cars are not Toyotas, yet I have no option that I can find to change manufacturers. That's a huge oversite. Aside from that, the Dirt Tour is okay, it'd be nicer if you had the option to skip straight to the Truck series, or had the option to sim through races you don't want to run. The AI, near as I can tell, hasn't changed since NASCAR Heat Evolution/NASCAR Heat 2. If it has, it's unnoticeable. Overall, I'm disappointed, I feel like I bought an unpolished, unfinished product and nobody should feel that way when they buy a game for $70 (game plus Season Pass). NASCAR Heat 2 Removal: NASCAR Heat 2 will soon be removed from the Steam Store. For those who have already purchased Heat 2, you can continue to play, including all the game’s online features.
